This very special Long Island City expedition explores the changes that have occurred and are continuing to take place across Queens’ largest neighborhood. It will explore the concept of gentrification and examine how the neighborhood has survived and thrived throughout all of these changes.
This expedition is great for tourists staying at nearby hotels and New Yorkers who want to learn more about an up and coming yet mostly unfamiliar community. It is leisurely but requires a good deal of walking.
Long Island City
Jeff is a New York City Public School Teacher who has lived in Western Queens since 2011. In his spare time, he loves to explore all that New York has to offer, but scoffs at the notion that New York is just “the city” (Manhattan). He loves showing people the hidden gems of the outer boroughs and how the “bridge and tunnel” folks live. One of his favorite items to explore is the ever-changing dynamic of change and gentrification that is occurring across most neighborhoods.
